Volunteer to Help Flood Victims with Samaritan’s Purse

August 1, 2017 - August 15, 2017

Volunteers Needed!

The Chapel has partnered with Samaritan’s Purse to help provide flood relief to families in Northeast Illinois. We are excited to connect with an internationally-acclaimed and experienced disaster relief ministry!

There is a big need for volunteers from all campuses every day (EXCEPT SUNDAYS) at either 7:15 a.m. or 12:15 p.m.

The morning volunteers can choose to work four or eight hours, while the 12:15 group will work four hours. There is no need to register. People should simply show up at the Libertyville campus (1200 American Way in Libertyville) dressed to work, including long pants and closed toe shoes. There will be a short safety briefing and they’ll send people out in groups of approximately 10 to serve.

Samaritan’s Purse has already brought their Disaster Response Unit #1 and other equipment and vehicles to serve. Their home base is our Libertyville campus and they have about 15 volunteers and staff from all over the U.S. They are sleeping inside our building on cots and air mattresses, using a kitchen and set up in our parking lot, possibly for three weeks! It’s awesome that God is allowing us to use our buildings and resources in this way!

What should I wear as a volunteer?
Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes. A Samaritan’s Purse t-shirt, gloves and safety glasses will be provided. Other safety items will be provided as needed onsite.

What about transportation?
We will try to carpool from Libertyville to the worksite and back. However, someone is free to drive his/her own car to the site from the Libertyville campus and leave directly from the site to go home if that’s more convenient.

How old does someone have to be to serve?
A 14 or 15 year-old can serve with a parent onsite. Someone can be age 16 or 17 with a youth leader or parent onsite.

How long will Samaritan’s Purse be here?
We anticipate that they will be onsite through Aug. 15.

Is this Samaritan’s Purse opportunity just a Libertyville initiative?
No, no and no!!! This is for all of us to rally around. Samaritan’s Purse is simply set up at Libertyville and using this facility as a base.

What about donating items?
As always, clothing and small items can be dropped off at the Community Care Center 24/7. We don’t have space for furniture or large items, and these are not typically needed immediately after a flood.

“I can’t say enough about the volunteers who traveled here from other places around the country. I’m thankful God gave me the opportunity to help right here in my hometown. I had a four-hour window, and I couldn’t find a better way to spend my time and put it toward working for Christ.”
– Dale, one of our awesome volunteers
