About This Trip
Liberia is slowly recovering from the devastating effects of a 14-year civil war that destroyed the country’s infrastructure, left thousands of orphans and has emotionally and physically devastated each Liberian in some way from the horrors of war. To make matters worse, the country is also recovering from the Ebola pandemic that killed thousands of Liberians and left thousands more orphaned. The current unemployment rate is 85% (second worst in the world) and the per capital annual income is $450. The Chapel team will serve in Liberia with our Global Outreach (GO) Partner, ELWA Ministries Association USA (ELWA), in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa.
ELWA (Eternal Love Winning Africa) has a 130-acre campus located on the Atlantic Ocean just outside of Monrovia, the capital of Liberia. ELWA operates a 90-bed hospital, a 900 student, K-12 Christian school, a youth camp and a Christian radio station. ELWA Radio was the first Christian radio station built in all of Africa and it has broadcast the gospel throughout Liberia and neighboring countries for over 60 years. ELWA Ministries also supports local orphanages and works closely with Moses Paye, President of the 101 Evangelical Churches of Liberia (ECOL).
There are many projects to do and ministries to see while in Liberia. Past trip participants have worked with the kids at the orphanage, renovated and painted buildings, organized youth camps, built shipping container homes, visited churches, prayed for patients at the ELWA Hospital, preached at churches, delivered Feed My Starving Food, visited villages and other ministries. No skill set is required, but we often use the skills of the team members that sign up. Our ultimate goal is for you to experience what God is doing in another part of the world, to love God’s people, to serve them and to pray for them.
We will do at least one work project as a team on ELWA Property at the school, youth camp or radio station. More details will be available as the trip departure date approaches.
