Baptism is an important moment in the life of a Christian.

It is a public way to demonstrate your relationship with Jesus. After giving your statement of your faith in Jesus Christ, baptism is done through immersion in water to identify with Christ’s death and Resurrection.

Baptism FAQ

Who should be baptized?

Everyone who has accepted Christ as the forgiver of your sins and the leader of your life should be baptized.

At what age should a child get baptized?

When a child has made the decision that they want to live for Jesus and accept him as the forgiver of their sins and leader of their life, they can be baptized. This is a decision that a child should make with their parents. If a child has not yet made a decision to follow Christ, they should not be baptized. What if I have already been baptized?

It depends. If you were baptized and had already committed yourself to Christ, it is not appropriate for you to be baptized again (Ephesian 4:5). But if you were baptized and were not a believer (including infant baptism) we encourage you to read through the Scripture above and consider being baptized to show your commitment to Christ.

When do baptisms happen at The Chapel?

We do them in a variety of ways at The Chapel. We often do them during our services after a time of worship. Some of our campuses have special services that are completely focused on baptism. Other campuses do them as a part of our weekend services. We love to celebrate and offer many opportunities to be baptized throughout the year.

Who can I invite to the baptism?

We encourage you to invite your friends and family to your baptism. This is a great time to share your new life with your friends and family. Everyone is invited to your baptism.

What should I wear to the baptism?

Dress modestly. Loose, dark, comfortable clothing works well. For women, bathing suites should only be worn under other clothing. Be sure to bring a change of clothing, toiletries, and two large towels.

What is my testimony and why do I have to share one?

We all want to hear what a difference God has made in your life – a testimony is just that story! A testimony is a brief (3 minute) story of how you became a Christian.

Every testimony should include the following elements:

  • Your life prior to accepting Jesus
  • How and when you entered into a relationship with Jesus
  • Some of the changes that have taken place in your life since becoming a Christian
  • It is a good idea to avoid lengthy stories that do not point to Christ’s work in your life.

We regularly host Baptism Interest Meetings at all of our campuses. These times will allow you to understand a little more about baptism and specifics about your baptism service.
