Bible Reading:
It’s the Thursday before Easter. On Wednesday, Judas went to the religious authorities and agreed to deliver Jesus into their hands for 30 silver coins. Today’s reading begins with Jesus celebrating Passover with his disciples. John 13:1–17 Mark 14:22–72
Passover is a celebration of freedom for the Jewish people. The Israelites had been in slavery in Egypt for over 400 years when God instructed them to mark their doorposts with the blood of a lamb so that the angel of death would “pass over” their homes and spare their firstborn sons. This led to the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. For more details, read Exodus 12.
