Mountains - Week 3

God doesn’t just save us from something, He saves us for something. Preaching from the story of Mount Sinai—the precursor to Pentecost—Denvil explores how divine encounters are meant to bring transformation, not just liberation.

He begins by reflecting on moments that shape us, noting that our lives are not marked by ordinary days, but by defining spiritual moments. At Mount Sinai, God’s glory descends with fire, thunder, and smoke. But rather than lean into the divine encounter, the Israelites retreat in fear, choosing Moses as their mediator. This to modern believers: we often resist the power of God when we misunderstand its purpose. Sinai wasn’t just about deliverance from Egypt, but about intimacy, identity, and purpose—God wanted to make Israel His treasured possession and a kingdom of priests (Exodus 19:4–6). The fire on the mountain was an invitation, not a threat.

Denvil parallels Sinai to Pentecost, explaining how both are divine downloads—moments when heaven breaks into earth. At Pentecost, just as at Sinai, people are overwhelmed, shaken, and transformed. God’s presence may seem strange or disruptive, but it’s always redemptive.
