Reconstruction - Week 2
Who is Jesus, really?
Jesus made bold, unsettling claims about himself: that he is the Messiah (John 4), that he existed before Abraham (John 8), that he and the Father are one (John 10), and that he alone is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14). These statements leave no room for casual admiration; they demand a response. As C.S. Lewis famously argued in Mere Christianity, Jesus cannot simply be a good moral teacher. He was either a liar, a lunatic, or he was, and is, God.
And when we examine his life, everything points to the latter. He doesn’t fit the profile of a manipulative scam artist or an unhinged mind. Instead, we see humility, wisdom, sacrifice, and love—someone who gave everything, not to gain power, but to give life.
Jesus was unlike anyone the world had ever seen. He looked into people’s lives with piercing clarity, spoke directly to their pain, and instead of condemning them, he set them free. He gave second chances to those who had blown it, offered hope to the hopeless, and invited people into an entirely new way of living. And he didn’t just say extraordinary things—he backed them up. He predicted his own death and resurrection, and then fulfilled it.
Jesus didn’t offer a secret formula—he offered himself. And he still does. He meets us in our pain, failure, and doubt, and transforms us from the inside out. All you have to do is say yes to him today.
