Living the Dream - Week 1
This week we kicked off a new series exploring dreams in the Bible, beginning with Jacob’s dream in Genesis 28. After deceiving his father and stealing his brother’s blessing, Jacob was running for his life. He found himself alone, afraid, and unsure of what lay ahead. And it’s in that very place, in the middle of his mess, that God shows up in a dream.
Jacob sees a stairway reaching from earth to heaven, with angels ascending and descending. At the top, God speaks. He reaffirms the covenant promises made to Abraham and Isaac: “I am with you… I will watch over you… I will bring you back.” Jacob wasn’t seeking this moment, and he certainly didn’t expect it. Yet God, in his relentless love, met Jacob right where he was and offered the assurance of his presence, protection, and provision.
But this isn’t just a dream about a ladder—it’s about a God who comes down to us. Jesus refers to this moment in John 1:51, declaring himself as that stairway, the connection between heaven and earth. He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), and through him, the promises of God are still alive for those who belong to Christ (Galatians 3:29).
Jacob’s story reminds us that we don’t have to be in the right place or have everything figured out for God to speak. In fact, it’s often in the messiest moments that he draws near, offering grace instead of judgment and hope instead of despair. God is already closer than you think—inviting you to listen, to trust, and to receive his presence right where you are. Click on the link below to hear this week’s message!
