Sunday School Remix - Week 5
In Luke 10, a man approaches Jesus with a question: “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” When Jesus points him back to the greatest commandments, love God and love your neighbor, the man presses further: “And who is my neighbor?”
It’s a question we still wrestle with today. How far does love really have to go? Who actually counts as my neighbor?
Jesus answers with a story that flips the question inside out. Instead of defining who qualifies as a neighbor, He paints a picture of what love looks like. It’s not about limiting our compassion to certain people or situations; it’s about expanding it beyond what’s comfortable, expected, or easy.
The love Jesus calls us to is more than a thought or a feeling; it’s a mercy that moves. It notices the hurting. It stops in the middle of busy plans. It bends low to bind wounds. It pays the cost and comes back to make sure the work is complete.
This kind of love is interruptive, inconvenient, and boundary-breaking. But it’s also deeply personal. It’s the kind of love God has shown to each of us.
As you reflect today, ask yourself: Where is Jesus inviting me to let compassion become action? Who might he be calling me to see, to serve, to love in a way that reflects his heart? And hear his gentle challenge: “Go and do likewise.”
