Sunday School Remix - Week 6
In Luke 15, Jesus tells a story that many of us know well—a younger son demands his inheritance, leaves home, and loses everything in reckless living. When he hits rock bottom, he returns—not expecting forgiveness, just hoping for a place as a servant.
But before he even reaches the house, his father sees him, runs to him, embraces him, and restores him fully. No lectures. No punishment. Just compassion, celebration, and open arms. It’s a story about grace. Not fairness. Not rules. Just the overwhelming mercy of a father who wants his child home. But that’s only half the story.
There’s another son—the older one—who never left, never rebelled, and now stands outside the celebration, angry and unwilling to join in. He did everything right, yet his heart is far from his father’s. Jesus isn’t just telling a story about a lost son. He’s revealing the heart of God—and asking us to look at our own.
Can we celebrate grace when it’s given to someone else? Can we step out of judgment and into joy? Can we become people who run toward the hurting, not away from them?
Compassion doesn’t always make sense. It breaks rules. It costs us something. But it reflects the very heart of our Father. As you reflect today, ask: Where am I in this story? Am I running home, standing outside, or stepping into someone else’s mess with mercy? The invitation is the same for all of us—come home, and help bring others with you.
