Hearing God - Part One
We live in a world filled with noise, distraction, and constant busyness. From the endless buzz of technology to the demands of work, family, and relationships, the volume of life can drown out the gentle voice of God. Yet throughout the Bible, we see ordinary people whose lives were transformed because they heard Him speak. Even Jesus made space to step away from the noise, quiet His heart, and listen. Prayer, then, isn’t just talking to God. It’s a conversation with Him, and true conversation requires listening.
God is speaking all around us. Creation itself testifies to His greatness—the storms and sunsets, the intricacy of spiderwebs, the vastness of oceans and mountains. He whispers through the beauty of the world and through the people in our lives, softening our hearts and stirring us to love. But not every voice is His. The noise of culture, the lies of the enemy, and even our own distractions can keep us from hearing Him. That’s why listening requires both observing and reflecting: noticing what’s around us, then inviting God to give us His perspective.
When we slow down and make space for God, everything changes. The world around us may stay the same, but our hearts and vision are renewed. We begin to notice beauty we once overlooked, sense His peace in the middle of chaos, and see people through His eyes.
