Postcards From The New Testament - Week 1
In a short, deeply personal letter tucked near the end of the Bible, the apostle John writes to his friend Gaius. It’s the book of 3 John—the shortest in Scripture—but it carries the weight of encouragement for weary believers. Much like a postcard from a trusted friend, it’s brief but packed with truth.
At first glance, the story pulls us toward drama. A man named Diotrephes is stirring up conflict, craving control, and refusing to welcome others. But John doesn’t linger there. Instead, he turns our attention to Gaius—someone quietly and faithfully walking in truth. John celebrates this, not with flattery, but with joy: Gaius is living in alignment with Jesus, showing hospitality, and staying grounded in the Spirit.
In her message, Ellie used the image of pen pals—short letters that carry deep meaning—to show how God can speak volumes in few words. She reminded us that walking in truth isn’t just about believing the right things. Truth is a person: Jesus. It’s His way, His teachings, and His Spirit alive in us. It’s not religion for religion’s sake—it’s freedom.
John’s letter is a call to stay focused and not to get distracted by sin—yours or someone else’s. Don’t get pulled into the drama, the disunity, or the noise. Instead, fix your eyes on Jesus. Keep living in His love. Keep showing up.
And when it gets hard, hear John’s words again: “You are doing it. You are walking in the truth.” Keep going. Don’t give up. That’s the whole point. Click below to watch the full message.
