Jesus Unfiltered - Anger

This week, we looked at John 2:13-25, where Jesus drives out vendors from the temple, expressing righteous anger against the corruption and exploitation occurring in the temple. The temple, intended as a place of worship and prayer, had been transformed into a marketplace for profit. Jesus’ response was deliberate and forceful and likely would have made us uncomfortable—making a whip, flipping tables, and physically removing vendors.

Righteous anger is radically different from the rage-filled, hate-driven anger we often see today. Jesus’ actions in the temple were not about vengeance or destruction, nor did they come from a place of bitterness. His anger was intentional, controlled, and purposeful, seeking to restore dignity, justice, and access to God’s presence for all people.
