God, please forgive me. This is a simple prayer of repentance, telling God how much you regret disobeying him or failing to live as he would want you to. A beautiful example of this is the tax collector in the Temple who beats his breast and says “God, be merciful to me, a sinner” – and who stands in stark contrast to the Pharisee that proclaims his own righteousness.
