4Word Prayers - Part 4

This is a simple prayer of invitation and expectancy, asking God to come, make his presence known and to be near to us. In the story of the child Samuel, the Lord calls him 3 times, and 3 times Samuel runs to Eli saying, “Here I am”, thinking it is Eli’s voice. Eli helps him to understand that it may be the Lord’s voice and to respond, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” For us today, the “Here I am” prayers are a way of posturing ourselves before the Lord in a way that anticipates both his presence and his living voice in our lives.
